WE WORK TO promote the enhancement, growth and careful use of Mt. Lebanon’s GREEN SPACE PARKS - BIRD PARK, TWIN HILLS AND ROBB HOLLOW - and to foster an appreciation of and respect for the environment.

Native Plant Sale

Our ONLINE native plant sale goes live April 1.

ONLINE SALE: We will again be selling straight-species native plants, available in “strips” of 4 or 5 landscape plugs. (See “What is a Plug?” below.) A few will be sold as individual plants. The sale opens April 1, 8 a.m. Selections sell out fast, usually in a few days. Strips will sell for $22-$27.50, depending on the plant and how much it costs wholesale. Plant pickup will be May 18 at Sunnyhill Unitarian Church, 1240 Washington Road.

IN-PERSON SALE: The same selection of species will be on offer at a “live sale” Saturday, May 18, 10-1, at Sunnyhill Church. Quantities will be limited there as well.

The plant sale is our biggest fund-raiser of the year, and a labor of love for Mt. Lebanon, native insects and animals, and residents who want beautiful, native gardens. Thank you for your support!

Check it out!

The 2024 Quick Guide shows basic plant info, prices, number of plants per strip, and which two species will be sold as individual plants.

PROJECTS

We will be planting a few dozen 2-gallon trees in Bird Park on Saturday, April 20. Can you help?

Work will take place in an area where volunteers removed invasive shrubs and cleared space at a workday in March.

Tree planting will be noon-3 p.m. Meet at the Beadling Road entrance to Bird Park. Parking may be limited due to events at the park so give yourself a little extra time to find parking.

More information and signups are here.

PROGRAMS

In support of our 2024 Native Plant Sale, we are presenting a helpful how-to program, “Layering Native Plants in Your Garden.” Join us April 2, 6-7:15, at Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills (Sunnyhill), 1240 Washington Road.

You will learn why to incorporate native species and how to include them in your landscape design for maximum effectiveness. The program centers on the 21 plant selections available via the Conservancy’s sale, but the principles apply to all native species.  More information here.

~ HOW YOU CAN HELP MT. LEBANON NATURE CONSERVANCY ~

  • Click on the “donate” button to make a contribution online. Sustaining donations (posted monthly to your credit card) help us the most because they even out the cash flow of our small non-profit organization.

  • Send a check donation, made out to “Mt. Lebanon Nature Conservancy,” to: P.O. Box 14901, Pittsburgh, PA 15243. Checks minimize the fees we pay for online processing.

  • We also highly value the time that volunteers give through the year. Hundreds of people join in to help weed, clip, haul or plant. We welcome other volunteer help, such as working with us to develop new programs; staffing booths at events like Mt. Lebanon’s Earth Day; doing some printing or photocopying; or contributing photographs that we can post to social media or our website.
